About Karuna Yoga
The regular, persevering, and alert
practice of yoga is the foundation
for stabilising the consciousness”
- BKS Iyengar -
Karuna is a Sanskrit word used to describe our approach to Yoga.
Karuna means compassionate action. Unlike pity or feeling sorry for others it is the giving of unconditional love to everyone without distinction and a commitment to alleviating suffering.
Karuna Yoga is inspired by the work of BKS Iyengar. A method renown for its precision and attention to detail that allows its Practitioners to confidently progress their practice and Teachers to lead safe and effective yoga classes
The fundamental laws of alignment, and an awareness of how you are organising your limbs along with inward focus deepens your sensitivity to the subtle feedback from the postures and is key to your success in Karuna Yoga
Although primarily a physical practice, Karuna Yoga has at it's core the eight limbs of yoga. The eight limbs of yoga are guidelines for daily living and a system for spiritual development
(1) YAMAS - The Yogic Codes of Social Conduct
(2) NIYAMAS - The Yogic Codes of Personal Conduct
(3) ASANA - Physical postures for Health, Strength, Flexibility, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Well-Being
(4) PRANAYAMA - The Mechanics of Breathing
(5) PRATYAHARA - Preparations for Meditation
